CalWest's client school, Bridges Academy, is seeking aHIGH SCHOOL CHEMISTRY-INTEGRATED SCIENCE TEACHER. THE HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE POSITION WILL BE COMPRISED OF 3 PRIMARY SECTIONS OF 11TH GRADE CHEMISTRY, ALTERNATING ACROSS 6 FIVE-WEEK COPERNIMESTERS. THIS IS A FULL-TIME POSITION. TO ROUND OUT THE POSITION, FACULTY WILL TYPICALLY BE ASSIGNED AN ADVISORY GROUP, AND/OR ELECTIVE AND/OR AN OPPORTUNITY TO MENTOR/COACH STUDENTS IN THE HIGH SCHOOL YOUNG EXPERT PROGRAM. CLASS SIZES RUN APPROXIMATELY 9-10 STUDENTS PER SECTION. CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE IS HIGHLY PREFERRED. BACKGROUND IN GIFTED AND/OR LD IS PREFERRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL BE INTERESTED IN DEEPENING THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF TEACHING AND LEARNING AS REQUIRED BY THE NEEDS OF THE 2E POPULATION.nnBridges Academy is a small independent school specializing in the twice exceptional population. (2e) These are students are gifted or above average in ability and/or potential, and also have learning differences. Class sizes run between 8 - 12 students.nnChemistry is a focal point in the four-year integrated science sequence. Teachers work collaboratively, sometimes moving in an out of other classrooms to integrate curriculum and to develop a deeper and shared understanding of the departments goals and approach. Science and math operate in the context of a variation of STEM integration that emphasizes individual enquiry and study.nnPOSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:n* Commit to ongoing professional development in the discipline and in 2e principles and practices. n* Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process. n* Facilitate activities and projects that incorporate social skills, communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking skills, and the skills of the discipline. n* Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of the 2e students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and other special needs. n* Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis. n* Collaborate with administration and peers to enhance the instructional environment. n* Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community and meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating, etc. nnSKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:n* Expert level knowledge in their field and competency in related fields. n* Experience in project, problem-based models for gifted and LD. Training will be provided n* Background in gifted and/or learning disabilities is desirable. Training will be provided. n* Capable of facilitating the development of a broad range of skills tracking Blooms taxonomy.
