**A Day in the Life**
**Position Description**
The chemist will be primarily responsible for performing Extractable and Leachable Extractions and Inductively Coupled Plasma- Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) data analysis and testing support in an analytical chemistry lab. The position has responsibility for project-based sample preparation, operation of ICP-MS instrumentation, data processing, and quantitation for chemical characterization in accordance to ISO10993. The role functions as part of an analytical chemistry team that works under ISO 13485 and ISO 17025 Quality Management Systems.
**Position Responsibilities**
Partner with customers to understand and define testing needs
Support protocol writing and extraction design
Execute extractions of test articles
Perform ICP-MS calibration, analysis and data processing
Interpretation of ICP-MS spectra to support chemical characterization
Write reports that clearly organize the results and demonstrate that test plan requirements were satisfied
Document testing and data analysis results in a lab notebook
Maintain and troubleshoot ICP-MS instrumentation and peripheral equipment
Support investigations into aberrant test results
Other responsibilities may include supporting other chemical characterization testing including non-volatile residue (NVR), HPLC-UV, GC, and/or LC/MS sample preparation, analysis and quantification/identification
**Basic Qualifications**
Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Biology, Material Science, or related technical discipline
Minimum of 2 years work experience performing ICP analytical testing
Experience documenting testing in laboratory notebooks to cGMP standards
Experience and understanding of cGMP, ISO17025, ISO10993, FDA, and ICH requirements
Strong verbal and written communications skills
Ability to prioritize and execute on daily tasks
Ability to work and be effective with minimal supervision
Use of Microsoft Word & Excel
**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**
Bachelors degree required
Minimum of 2 years of experience, or advanced degree with 0 years of experience
**Nice to Have**
General Analytical chemistry laboratory techniques with a preference for experience in: liquid chromatography (LC), gas chromatography (GC), non-volatile residue (NVR), atomic spectroscopy (AS), and general bench and wet chemistry techniques
Familiarity with using strong mineral acids and organic solvents
Experience interpreting and analyzing ICP/MS data
Experience interpreting and analyzing NVR data
Familiarity with Nugenesis and Labware
Experience in customer service, partnering with clients, and leading problem-solving initiatives.
Demonstrated collaborative attributes and experience being successful in a dynamic team environment.
Candidate should have strong interpersonal skills, and a strong ability to understand ICP-MS concepts related to laboratory data interpretation.
Knowledge of medical devices, materials, and sterilization.
Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
Experience working to project deadlines and results oriented.
Experience managing small projects
Experience working in a highly regulated environment including documentation standards and practices for chemical characterization, test method validation, and equipment qualification
Knowledge of technical concepts and principals underlying Organic and Inorganic analytical chemistry techniques.
