The Hutchens lab studies heart-kidney interactions in critical illness, focusing on novel signaling and transport mechanisms which contribute to acute and chronic kidney disease.
A new postdoctoral fellow position is available in the lab of Dr. Michael Hutchens. This position is supported by a new grant from the US Department of Defense.
The postdoctoral fellow will test novel molecular biology in the kidney response to rhabdomyolysis as a therapeutic mechanism. The fellow will integrate data from performance of rodent model (including low-complexity rodent surgery) with samples and data derived from a large animal model performed in another laboratory. Based on hypothesis testing, the fellow will design experiments, analyze data, write manuscripts, and present at research conferences. Advanced in vivo physiologic measurements including real-time fluorescence determination of glomerular filtration rate and large-scale analysis of proteomic and genetic data are additional techniques which will be learned and practiced by the fellow.
Training will be provided in techniques as required. The studies which will form the core of this position’s project are high-impact, and considered likely to lead to rapid changes in clinical care. A high level of engagement in these projects, including the ability to provide pivotal conceptual and technical input, is essential.
