Profile

The Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department at MyoKardia is seeking an enthusiastic intern to join its drug discovery and development efforts during the summer of 2020. The intern will lead an independent project to develop immunoassay-based methods for quantitative endogenous biomarker detection. These methods will support the characterization of disease models and pharmacodynamic properties of novel drug candidates, ultimately aiding MyoKardia in delivering new therapies for the treatment of rare/serious cardiovascular disease. This position will be a lab-focused role with the opportunity to collaborate across multiple disciplines within research.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate with cross-functional teams at MyoKardia to identify biomarkers of interest that relate to current research areas.
  • Develop and optimize protocols for sensitive and precise quantification of identified biomarkers.
  • Work collaboratively with multiple departments at MyoKardia to plan experiments utilizing novel biomarker assays.
  • Perform biomarker measurement experiments, analyze data, and summarize findings in written reports and presentations.
  • Present data and findings to cross-functional teams.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

Education/Experience:
  • Currently obtaining BS/MS/PhD degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biological/chemical engineering, or related field.
  • For applicants currently obtaining BS degree, at least three years of completed coursework is preferred.
  • Experience working in a laboratory setting and basic laboratory skills (e.g. pipetting, reagent preparation, etc.) preferred.


Knowledge/Skills:
  • Experience performing immunoassays (e.g. ELISA, MSD, etc.) to detect and quantify proteins.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize protocols and develop new assays.
  • Knowledge of protein isolation/concentration techniques (e.g. immunoprecipitation).
  • Experience working on and communicating with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
