Job Description
The Department of Chemical Engineering & Materials Science at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. has two Spring semester 2019 openings for Adjunct Course Instructors to teach the following three-credit graduate courses in chemical engineering:
CHE 630 Theory of Transport Processes
A generalized approach to differential and macroscopic balances, constitutive material equations, momentum and energy transport in laminar and turbulent flow, interphase and intraphase transport, dimensionless correlations.
CHE 650 Reactor Design
Analysis of batch and continuous chemical reactions for homogeneous, heterogeneous, catalytic, and non-catalytic reactions; influence of temperature, pressure, reactor size and type, mass and heat transport on yield and product distribution; design criteria based on optimal operating conditions, theories of rates of reaction, bioreactions, modeling chemical reactors, introduction to computational simulation of chemical reactors.
Under this appointment, responsibilities will include the following: working with the Chemical Engineering Program Director to define the course syllabus, teaching assigned classes, attending all class sessions, grading and providing appropriate feedback to students, scheduling office hours, completing all assessment requirements, and attending at least one orientation meeting. You will also be required to provide your students and the Department of Chemical Engineering & Materials Science office with a comprehensive course syllabus before the start of the semester. The course will have a site on the Canvas learning management system (training and support will be provided) and the syllabus and course requirements must be posted there together with all course materials per the established practices of the department.  The syllabus should include all course requirements, grading policy, assignments, expected exams and required reading. Textbooks must be determined in-time for materials to arrive well in advance of the first week of classes. Finally, instructors will be required to adhere to the policies stated in the Faculty Handbook.
Qualifications: A doctoral degree in chemical engineering, or an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering combined with a doctoral degree in a closely related field. Experience teaching at the University level required.
