While drawing heavily on the traditional chemistry subdisciplines, and assuring expertise in the fundamentals, we also provide the opportunity to explore beyond the traditional boundaries.

The Instrumentation Specialist is responsible for management of all instrumentation owned by the Department of Chemistry. Duties will include: managing research and teaching instrumentation (including those located in undergraduate teaching labs, research labs, and shared instrumentation facilities); trouble shooting, repair and setup of all instruments; training on proper use and safety procedures; managing contracts and ensuring that funding for additional instrumentation is wisely spent and providing expertise to faculty and students in labs and in research proposals and projects.


Qualifications:
Basic Requirements:
Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field, and 5 or more years of experience operating and maintaining NMR and other chemical instrumentation.
Significant hands on experience operating and maintaining mass spectrometers.
Strong knowledge, background, and experience with PC hardware, software, and networking.
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduate-level work in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field, PhD preferred.
Hands on experience with other chemical instrumentation, which may include, but is not limited to, EPR, AA, XPS, and FTIR spectrometers, UV/Vis spectrophotometers, plate readers, X-ray diffraction instrumentation, SEM, ICP-OES, Gas Chromatographs and HPLC systems is a plus.
The successful candidate will have excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to prioritize multiple demands. They must be proactive in familiarizing themselves with new instruments quickly yet be comfortable working with older equipment and related software.
