MyoKardia's Chemistry Department is seeking a summer intern who will work in collaboration with medicinal chemists and drug metabolism scientists to synthesize drug-like molecules and investigate their metabolism.


This position will be responsible for:

  • Executing multi-step synthesis of small molecules using modern organic synthesis, including chemical analysis and purification
  • Work closely with drug metabolism scientists (DMPK) to conduct LCMS fragment interpretation experiments for metabolite identification studies
  • Identifying structure-activity and structure-property relationships across a set of compounds
  • Prepare reports and present scientific contributions at group meetings


  • BS/BA degree in Medicinal Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or a related discipline with significant synthetic experience required.

  • Candidates should be currently enrolled in an accredited PhD or Master's program and have at least 2 years of research experience. Industrial experience desired but not required.

  • Must have expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and be able to execute chemical reactions independently while working collaboratively across various functions.
  • Experience with TLC, LC/MS, purification using column chromatograph and other standard laboratory techniques.
  • Must have knowledge in NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry to be able to interpret and characterize molecular structures.
  • Experience with safe laboratory practices and EH&S guidelines
  • Candidates must be available to work full-time for 12 weeks between June and September 2020.

  • Ideal candidates will have excellent academic performance, strong track record of achievement in synthetic and/or medicinal chemistry and be able to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, including preparation of manuscripts and presentations.
