The Discovery Bioanalytics team within Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics and Drug Metabolism (PPDM) Department at our research division in Boston is seeking a Principal Scientist. You will provide technical project leadership and solve complex problems to drive innovative bioanalytical approaches in support of Merck's pipeline dedicated to developing novel therapeutic agents
You will also be self-motivated, with proven leadership experience, a track record of innovation, and expertise in protein analysis using immunoassays and small molecule quantitation by LC-MS/MS. You will work with a highly collaborative team of scientists from PPDM, Chemistry, and Biologics Discovery to design plan and implement strategies to leverage bioanalytical approaches to advance Merck's pipeline
In this exciting role, you will
Set and influence program strategies across a portfolio of projects
Responsible for independently managing functional deliverables for assigned program(s) and for driving the science on a day to day basis with broad project goals and capable of making decisions and solving problems of high complexity
Design experiments, interpret and track results, and utilize the information to optimize and advance bioanalytical support via LC-MS/MS and LBA
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related discipline with a minimum 8 years relevant experience OR a MD (DVM/PhD or MD/PhD Dual Degree acceptable) with a minimum 3 years relevant experience OR Masterâ€™s with a minimum 10 years OR a Bachelorâ€™s with a minimum of 14 years of relevant experience.
Required Experience and Skill Set:
Experience supervising people and leading teams strategically
Advanced experience in quantitation of proteins and small molecule (i.e. xenobiotics, biomarkers) in samples from ADME, MOA, PK/PD, and pre-clinical studies by means of immunoassays and LC-MS/MS
Expert in upkeep, maintenance and troubleshooting of instruments (e.g. LC-MS/MS, ELISA, MSD)
Ability to regularly lead the development of new, innovative bioanalytical approaches and experimental designs
Ability to identify patterns, trends & connections across data to reveal new dimensions to problems/solutions and articulate those ideas
In-depth understanding of the drug discovery process and Drug Metabolism science
Advanced in core business software and communication tools such as Microsoft Office
Conversant in bioanalytical method development and recognized as an innovator within the field of mass spectrometry and immunoassays
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated creativity.
Ability to work in a team environment with cross-functional interactions.
Preferred Experience and Skill Set:
History of publication in peer-reviewed journals and established scientific reputation (including publications, presentations at scientific meetings, membership of or leading cross-company working groups or consortia)
Understanding of external scientific environment and current state of art and ability to translate that to scientific innovation
Ability to multi-task in a highly dynamic environment and flexibility to work in a fast-paced team in a professional and pleasant manner
