Chemical Technician II
Reports to: Chief Chemist/Lab Supervisor
Collect, prepare, and analyze samples from all areas in Ray Operations. Record and report results to the appropriate departments. Assist Metallurgical Engineer and Chief Chemist in the coordination of activities concerning metallurgical process control and metallurgical testing to ensure the optimum efficiency of the operation via the Ray Mine Lab. Plus, be able to perform the duties and tasks within the Specialty Lab completely.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
A. Prepare mine, concentrator, and SX-Ew samples for assay using crushers, splitters, pulverizers, and associated equipment.
B. Operate the quality control lab bar code system to enter samples into the system.
C. Perform wet analysis of the samples using the following equipment: Precision Balance, Atomic Absorption Spectrometer, pH Meters, X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer, and other analytical equipment.
D. Maintain the quality of the assay results produced in the Quality Control Lab.
E. Promote and maintain safety and good housekeeping in the laboratory area.
F. Ensure that work practices comply with Company, Local, State, and Federal Safety and Environmental Standards and policies.
G. Interact with workforce and Human Resources, Purchasing, Accounting, etc. to ensure compliance with established company policies.
H. Be fully competent within LIMS and deriving assays from the lab system.
I. Have full and complete knowledge of the Specialty Lab in the capacity of filling in for the Chemist I.
Able to interact with operations personnel in regard to sample analysis and applications to the Ray Mine system.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Thorough knowledge of the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (FAA).
B. Thorough knowledge of the Teledyn DC ARC spectrograph
C. Thorough Knowledge of the LECO sulfur analyzer
D. SX/EW solutions including the organic solutions
E. Thorough knowledge of the Panalytical XRF PW 2606
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Complete understanding of the Ray Metlab data entry system, Specialty Lab equipment: AAS, Optical Emission Spectrograph, Organics, Titrametrics, LECO analyzer.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Requesting 5 years of mining lab experience, with some college courses in a science discipline.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT
Must wear safety PPE, not limited to ear plugs/muffs, respirator, etc.
Able to lift 50 lbs., mine sample preparation
