The analytical team within cell therapy is looking for someone passionate about flow cytometry and managing the cytometers within the cell therapy group. The individual will primarily be responsible for maintaining cytometers in a core environment, user trainings and development of 8-12-parameter based assays on BD Lyric and CANTO. Additionally, he/she will work with the high parameter flow cytometry team and develop 20 color assays to characterize the CART cells, while playing a major role in understanding and analyzing clinical samples.
As a member of the analytical development team, the individual will have the opportunity to contribute in multiple development programs and to assist in development, validation and transfer of analytical methods to advance Takeda`s portfolio.
Responsible for maintaining the flow cytometry equipment, conducting training seminars for users under minimal supervision. This position will also support flow cytometry panel design, assay development.
Performs the daily maintenance and tracking of flow cytometers.
Helps users with troubleshooting and contacts service as needed
Coordinates all activities surrounding the flow cytometers including contacting external and internal departments and keeping up with the inventory and the maintenance.
Trains users in the operation of cytometer and FlowJo analysis software.
Provides support in experimental setup, acquisition, analysis and creates templates on analysis software
Contributes to technical documents such as test methods, reports, protocols, SOP and internal presentations
Contributes significantly in a small team of scientists towards the optimization, qualification and technical transfer of flowcytometry based analytical methods in a compliance-based environment in a timely manner to meet program timelines
Identifies and communicates routine technical problems within scope of responsibility
Contribute scientifically to project team and local initiatives as appropriate
Makes and understands basic experimental decisions within scope of responsibility.
Contributes to technical transfer of experimental data/procedures to vendors as appropriate
Documents personal experimental results accurately and completely in laboratory notebook.
Collaborates departmentally as well as cross functionally with peers on project work as appropriate.
Additional accountabilities for a Scientist level role include:
Can replace instrument parts without the need to contact the service.
Identifies project needs, independently designs and develops 12 parameter panels on BD Lyric and 20 parameter panels on BD Symphony for various projects in cell therapies and establishes those panels on instruments by conducting appropriate experiments
Applies the developed panels on clinical samples, analyzes the data via advanced analysis platforms such as viSNE, FlowSOM, CITRUS, SPADE and summarizes the results.
Participates in assay development and qualification.
Builds analytical capabilities of the team by identifying advanced platforms to enhance our knowledge of the cell therapy products.
Optimizes instruments/PMTs and standardizes cytometers
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Bachelors degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering or related pharmaceutical science and 8 years relevant industry experience
Masters degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering or related pharmaceutical science; 6 years relevant industry experience
PhD in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering or related pharmaceutical science; 0 years relevant industry experience
Bachelors or Masters: Extensive experience in CMC pharmaceutical development for active pharmaceutical ingredients and drug products under cGMP’s
Sound knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)
Previous experience with the use of contract facilities
Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary team environment
PhD: Demonstrated mastery of subject or area related to field
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience in flow cytometry is a must, especially with BD CANTOII, BD Lyric, BD Symphony.
Knowledge in immunology and/or immune oncology
Experiences in immune cell handling, including cell isolation and culture
Experiences in cellular characterization assays, including flow cytometry-based is required, Amnis imaging flow cytometry-based, ELISA, qPCR and other cell-based assays.
Experiences with assay validation and tech transfer is desired.
Teamwork – Ability to work well in a highly cross-functional team environment
Communication - Able to expresses one’s self clearly and concisely within team; documents issues and/or concerns concisely with colleagues; timely and effectively communicates issues to supervisor; technical writing skills to support contributing to internal technical documents
Organization - Exercises good time management and prioritization skills and is able to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously
May require approximately 5% travel.
