As a member of the medicinal chemistry department at Biogen the intern will have the opportunity to work on a directed project exploring bioisosteres for the replacement of structural liabilities of commercial drugs and drug-candidates. Novel chemical methodology will be developed and applied to install these structural motifs with the goal to publish the results in a peer reviewed journal. The work the intern will be carrying out will be relevant to both synthetic as well as medicinal chemistry. The intern will gain hands on experience in synthetic organic chemistry, instrumentation, structure based drug design and interpretation of structure-activity relationship (SAR) data. Key Responsibilities: \u2022 Carry out chemical reactions and provide concise publication-grade experimental procedures \u2022 Contribute to the development of novel chemical transformations \u2022 Contribute to the development of new chemical matter of medicinal chemistry relevance \u2022 Contribute to the productivity of the medicinal chemistry department at Biogen \u2022 Participate in the preparation of a peer reviewed publication Qualifications \u2022 The ideal candidate will have completed 2 semesters of undergraduate organic chemistry and has experience in working in the laboratory (preferably 1-2 years) To participate in the Biogen Intern Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria: \u2022 Legal authorization to work in the U.S. \u2022 Enrollment in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program, returning to the academic program following Biogen intern assignment \u2022 Minimum grade point average of 3.2 (preferred) \u2022 At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date \u2022 Completed at least one year of undergraduate studies Education \u2022 Undergraduate student completed at least two years of program \u2022 Desired majors include: Organic chemistry, Pharmaceutical\/Medicinal chemistry.
