exciting opportunity in Columbus, Indiana for a Materials Science – Research Chemist.

Product Development, Value Package Introduction and Systems

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

Combines specialized knowledge of chemistry withengineering principles and practices, to identify and advance solutions fordesign, manufacturing and quality problems.

Works with cross functional teams on projectsthat require material selection, failure analysis, material characterization,interpretation and writing of specifications, product quality inspections,material process quality audits, material process development, productionprocess validation and material property data.

Utilizes specialized chemistry knowledge toinitiate evaluation and implementation of beneficial emerging materials andmaterials processing technology.

Applies technical expertise on complex componentsor projects and works under minimal supervision.

Leads projects of all sizes.

Provides technical direction for a project or aproject team.

Participates as a key contributor and isaccountable for project success.

Through project work, influences at department,program or business unit management level.

Provides input on program-related decisions.

Proposes innovative initiatives and projects.

Demonstrates depth of knowledge of chemistry andits subdisciplines and leverages that expertise on other projects.

Troubleshoots complex problems and recommendsappropriate actions.

Assists with the transfer of knowledge; coachesand mentors less experienced chemists, material engineers and chemicalengineers.

Skills and Experience Required:

Laboratory Test Technology – Chemical -

The chemist shall have

specialized knowledge and experience with basic and advanced chemical lab test

technology, to the extent that they are able to drive innovation and provide

technical direction for a project team on the characterization of physical,

mechanical and chemical properties.

FailureAnalysis - Chemical-

The chemist

shall have specialized knowledge and experience with failure analysis, to the

extent that they are able to drive innovation and provide technical direction

for a project team to collect the forensic, manufacturing, and service data

needed to determine root cause and deliver short / long term counter

measures.

MaterialCharacterization Techniques-Chemical -

The chemist shall have diversified knowledge and experience in characterizing

materials/substances based upon of analysis techniques such as spectroscopy and

chromatography, elemental analyses and classic wet-bench techniques that are

relevant across various sub-disciplines of chemistry.

5 years of relevant workexperience required.

Significantresearch experience in fuels and engine oil (Diesel, Natural Gas and Gasoline)with a track record of delivering results.

Significantexperience working with national labs, universities and external suppliers todevelop or evaluate new technologies.

Deeptechnical knowledge of ASTM test methods for both fuels and engine oils.

Stronginterpersonal skill set, prepared to work with a large diverse group withvarious levels of education.

Key Responsibilities

Set theresearch strategy for the Materials PPT group as it pertains to fuels, coolants,additives and engine oils.

Remaincurrent with the state of the art of the each industry and be able to use thisknowledge in conjunction with the global CMI strategy to bring business value.

Workwithin the Corporate Materials Science group to set budget targets for researchprojects.

Workclosely with the Corporate Tribology Lab to evaluate the interaction of novelcoatings and fluids.

Workwith the Corporate Materials PPT group to identify areas of external fundingand collaborations with universities.

Developtools/rigs that support fuel and oil research activities.

Supportthe Engine Business Unit's current product engine quality issues as they relateto fuel and engine oil.

Supportthe Chemical Technology Team as needed to support fuel and oil analysis issues.

Supportglobal efforts to elevate regional fuel and engine oil knowledge to supportlocal engine development programs.

Education, Licenses,Certifications

Ph.D in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or similar is required.
