Systemic Bio is a 3D Systems subsidiary based in Houston, TX, focused on the development of human vascularized organ and disease models to be used for drug discovery and development. Founded in August 2022 with a $15M seed investment from its parent company, Systemic Bio is using its proprietary bioprinting and organ-on-a-chip technology to accelerate drug development timelines, increase clinical trial success rates, and eventually put an end to animal testing.
The Lab Operations Lead will ensure that all needed equipment, supplies, contracts, processes, and protocols are in place to enable safe and effective laboratory operations.
Our current location is in the East End Maker Hub. We will transition to the TMC area (Holcombe Blvd) in the spring of 2023.
Responsibilities
Establish and implement lab management procedures; create and manage associated documentation.
Establish, maintain, and continuously optimize processes within the lab to increase efficiency and effectiveness, factoring in safety, workflows, inventory allocation, and equipment organization.
Establish and manage lab and site-wide safety programs, identify risks, maintain SDS, and implement corrective actions as needed. Act as the onsite subject matter expert regarding laboratory safety and work closely with EH&S to ensure compliance to applicable regulations, standards, policies and procedures, and best practices.
Anticipate, troubleshoot, and resolve operational problems, and address occasional lab emergencies.
Lead laboratory procurement and inventory system. Establish and manage the onsite materials management activities and logistics, ensuring lab consumables are adequately stocked. Coordinate vendor contracts and establish programs for purchasing laboratory supplies, chemical reagents, and general consumables to be stocked at the facility.
Perform routine equipment maintenance and schedule routine calibrations, quickly address repairs, and maintain equipment database/SOPs.
Define, assess, and maintain quality thresholds for equipment and reagents.
Coordinate facilities repairs and routine maintenance.
Coordinate lab deliveries, shipments, and waste removal.
Lead the work of future hire(s) for lab and office operations.

Education and Training
Bachelor’s Degree in Science (BS) in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, or other scientific related field

5 years of related operations experience is required
2 years of experience with inventory systems is required
2 years of experience managing purchasing is required
3 years of experience in life science, pharmaceutical, or biomedical industry is preferred
2 years of experience with quality systems is preferred
Experience in laboratory operations or a similar environment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs to facilitate the movement, installation, deployment, or shipping of equipment and supplies
Demonstrates clear Scientific and/or Engineering interest and aptitude suitable for an advanced research and development environment
Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
Ability to effectively manage day-to-day operations
Proven ability to collaborate in a strong interdisciplinary team environment
Comfortable working in a fast-paced and cross-functional environment
Ability to work independently to deliver results
Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas and information clearly, effectively, and frequently (verbal and written)
Facility with appropriate word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and related standard software
Preferred
Experience managing people and developing effective teams
Master’s degree (MS) is a plus
