Their work is a balance of identifying and implementing projects to meet safety, quality, throughput and cost objectives while coordinating the work and work processes of the plant’s engineering and maintenance personnel. This person is a critical player in the integration of progressive engineering and maintenance practices into the daily plant operations, accommodating both strategic and tactical demands of the plant and corporate management. Duties and responsibilities Evaluate and identify areas of improvement on processes in manufacturing systems. Develop innovative solutions. Develop and implement systems that optimize all phases of the production process. Lead incident investigations related to engineering and maintenance practice; provide insight as required on other incident investigations. Advise on corrective actions. Work with equipment designers and manufacturing officers to develop a cost-effective and working production process. Ensure projects are completed on time. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Follows through to ensure that Operations achieves a successful project start-up, and that any project related action items are completed. Supervises and assigns the work of Engineering & Maintenance employees. Audits work for completeness. Determines material, equipment, and supplies to be used. Maintains time cards and other routine records. Coordinates and inspects electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other related systems. Keep records of all maintenance and service activities. Identify, establish, and maintain relationships with a variety of supply vendors to ensure timely and accurate receipt and inventory of all required spare parts. Utilize vendor knowledge to help in assessing plant changes or upgrades. Manage sub-contractors by locating, evaluating, and selecting sub-contractors; and monitoring and controlling contractor performance. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering (preferred) or Chemistry and minimum 3 years of experience in process engineering. Ability to manage technical projects consistent with business strategy. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Good interpersonal and presentation skills. Basic understanding of process equipment design including pumps, polymerization reactors, pressure relief valve sizing, material balances, and instrument specifications. Possess a strong analytical and technical background. Ability to frame up, prioritize and execute process improvements according to value, cost and risk with limited supervision. Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of employees to plan, organize and complete multiple projects from inception to startup. Manufacturing experience with flammable or highly hazardous chemicals, with demonstrated excellent safe work behaviors. Comfortable functioning in a variety of roles ranging from plant floor troubleshooting and problem solving to leading long term process improvement projects Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing experience preferred.
