OverviewnOperation Superintendentn nJob PurposenThis position manages the daily operations of the plant and warehouse and is responsible for the efficient, safe and profitable operation of both. This includes coordinating plans with scheduling, inventory, shipping/receiving, maintenance and quality departments. nThe incumbent must establish action plans to ensure that the operation meets budgetary standards, complies with regulatory requirements for food and personnel safety, meets established customer service standards, and obtains desired production schedules while maintaining existing fiscal objectives. This person is also responsible for the training and development of staff (incl. hourly and salaried personnel) as well as maintaining a positive climate for employee relations.nPrimary Duties and ResponsibilitiesnEffective use of all Warehouse and Production resources to efficiently produce/ship finished products, including raw materials, labor, time, energy, and utilities.nCreate measures where needed to verify this efficiency with development and implementation of action plans for continuous improvement.nManage all operating expenses associated with product manufacture, including but not limited to all operating supplies and, direct and indirect production labor.nEnsure the establishment of productivity and performance goals for Production and Warehouse.nTrain, coach, and develop supervisors and all hourly-compensated production employees.nDevelop & maintain operating procedures.nTroubleshoot operational problems.nMonitor & control production yields.nBe available for consultation on plant and warehouse issues when needed.nReview the process equipment flow and recommend process flow improvements.nControl spending for overtime & supplies.nEnsure minimum production efficiencies are being met and create an improvement plan.nCreate work schedule for Production and Warehouse personnel.nConduct tool box meetings on a regular basis.nCommunicate production plans and issues to off-shifts in the form of daily shift reports.nCoordinate work activities on scheduled down days to clean, repair, or modify equipment or processes.nEvaluate subordinates in a written evaluation at least annually.nFoster an atmosphere of teamwork, and use work groups where appropriate.nCommunicate & help plan maintenance issues.nCoordinate equipment preventative maintenance schedules with Maintenance.nEnsure food safety rules are being followed.nGuarantee safe work behaviors are being followed.nEnsure housekeeping standards are being met.nAssumes responsibilities of the Plant & Warehouse Manager in his/her absence.nEducation: Bacheloru2019s Degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Operations, or EngineeringnExperience: At least 5 years of related experience; Experience working in a union environment a plus; Experience in the Food Industry preferred nSkills and Competencies: nn Communications u2013 Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills in dealing with those both internal and external to Stratas are critical to success.
