Process Technology for GP Cellulose, is responsible for providing process engineering and technical support, and to act as liaison between our R&D Teams and Manufacturing, to develop, validate, optimize and commercialize pulp manufacturing processes and products. The primary focus of the job is leading the transition from lab to pilot to mill scale demonstration and commercialization of new or improved pulp process technology for our Fluff and Specialty Cellulose business. In doing so, the role provides growth opportunity in our sales volume and price with current and new customers world-wide. This position will be based in Atlanta, GA. Sr. Manager, Process Technology A Day In The Life Typically Includes: Responsibilities: This individual is responsible for the successful design and execution of mill and customer trials including coordinating data collection, analysis and reporting. A detailed knowledge of wood-to-final-pulp processing equipment, process control and process technology is necessary to accurately assess and execute typical process development projects. This individual needs to have an extensive knowledge of the pulp production processes. Knowledge of quality and ISO systems are desirable. This individual must be able to prepare and present the results of lab, pilot and mill trials to GPC and its customers. A working knowledge of laboratory process and product testing methods is desirable along with the ability to interpret results, applying them to problem solving at GPC facilities and our customers. This individual must possess good interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work with all levels of the customers and GPs organization. Other responsibilities include maintaining contact with equipment and chemical suppliers and consultants. It also requires participation on mill/project engineering teams assisting in the Approach, Scope, Estimate of projects and assisting with their successful execution. What You Will Need: Basic Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering OR Paper Science Engineering A minimum of 10 years of experience as a practicing chemical or pulp and paper engineer in pulp and paper manufacturing Must be available to travel up to 75%, including some international travel Basic proficiency in M/S Office (e.g., Word, Power Pt., Excel) What Will Put You Ahead? Preferred Qualifications: Masters degree in Chemical Engineering OR Paper Science Engineering 15 or more years of experience as a practicing chemical or pulp and paper engineer in pulp manufacturing Demonstrated knowledge of wood prep, pulping and bleaching are required Understanding of Heat and Material Balance programs (e.g., CADSIM/MASBAL; Win Gems) Demonstrated knowledge of knotting washing screening and the caustic/kiln areas Demonstrated Knowledge of quality and ISO systems Demonstrated knowledge of cellulose science and development Demonstrated ability to interpret lab results for troubleshooting production problems.
