Principal Scientist - Process Analytical Technology and New Technology Development Description:

The expansion of biologics manufacturing facility in Devens, Massachusetts has created a biologics center of excellence. Over the past few years, Devens, a site that in its early years focused solely on large-scale bulk biologics manufacturing, has developed to a highly integrated campus consisting of advanced biologic development, manufacture development, digital plant technology and other advanced manufacture capabilities. Devens is well positioned to grow into a world-class, integrated biologic development and manufacture campus.

The Principal scientist of new technology and process analytical technologies (PAT) will lead a team of scientists responsible to develop and implement advanced and PAT technologies for real time monitoring of biopharmaceutical development process. The successful candidate should be self-motivated, have excellent communication and leadership skills, be a team leader, and have broad knowledge and experience in protein chemistry, bioprocess development and advanced on-line and in-line analytical technologies including automation, bio-separation of all protein attributes (glycan, charge, HMW, PTM etc), sensor, modeling, data management etc. Knowledge and experience with biologic manufacture and critical process control would be a plus.

Functional responsibilities include leading a team of scientists for PAT development and implementation in support of bioprocess development for late stage biologic development and manufacture. This role will base in Devens MA.

The successful candidate is expect to take an active role in the developing, qualifying, implementing of on-line/in-line/off-line analytical PAT technologies and other advanced new technologies. The Principal Scientist is expect to manage interactions within a matrix organization and serve as an interface between process development, analytical technology development, digital plan, data management, manufacture and relevant quality functions. This individual will also be responsible for generating high quality analytical data and authoring development and qualification documentations.

Qualifications:

A degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or related discipline.

PhD with minimal 8 years or MS with 12 Years of relevant experience in Biopharmaceutical or Pharmaceutical industry.

Strong understanding of biologic process control with an emphasis towards Process Analytical technologies (PAT).

Experience in analytical chemistry/biochemistry or Chemical Engineering with strong emphasis on experience and in-depth working knowledge of Analytical techniques including separation science, biosensor-based and antibody-based detection technologies.

Experience in a wide range of analytical technologies, including chromatography separation, spectroscopic techniques, capillary based separation, mass spectroscopy, Fourier Transform infrared FT-IR, Raman, Ultraviolet UV, IR etc.

Experience in International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) and FDA guidance on subjects related to quality by design (QbD) and advanced manufacture technologies.

Track record of successful developing and implementing novel analytical assays and technologies to support bioprocess development

Track record of demonstrable management skills of multiple projects

Experience in managing scientific staffs

Experience with cGMP as applied to analytical methods

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Works independently and as part of a matrix organization

Knowledge in protein attribute science understanding.

Physical Demands

This role requires office work, biochemical laboratory work, computer work, group meetings, and thus involves the following: sitting, standing, walking, working with analytical instruments, repetitive motion including bending and lifting small containers/equipment’s.

Work Environment

Occasionally working in an analytical laboratory handling chemical reagents that may be hazardous (corrosive, toxic, flammable etc.).

Office work, teleconferencing, computer work, leading meetings requiring working in open office environment, working alone and working with/around others.

Travel

This position may require occasional travel.
