Synthetic Chemist III, Research & Development
Location: South San Francisco or Pleasanton locations

We are seeking a creative, enthusiastic and highly motivated synthetic organic chemist to join our Organic & Oligo Chemistry R&D group within Platform R&D organization and located in our South San Francisco office.
How will you make an impact?
In this role the scientist will be responsible for design, development and optimization of synthesis of organic dyes, modified nucleosides and related small molecules. The scientist will also characterize intermediates and target compounds by HPLC, MS, NMR and other analytical techniques.
What will you do?
Design, develop and optimize synthesis of fluorescent dyes, quenchers and small molecules.
Purify and characterize intermediates and products by column chromatography, HPLC/UPLC, NMR, UV-VIS and other analytical techniques.
Write detailed procedure, SOP and other related documents.
Draft all documents needed for official transfer of processes to manufacturing and transfer processes to Manufacturing.
Develop analytical methods for NPI and transfer such methods to manufacturing during process transfer manufacturing.
Operate a variety of HPLC, UPLC and MS instruments to complete project and other R&D assignments
How will you get here?
​Education:
Ph.D. in organic chemistry with 3-5 years postdoctoral and/or industrial experience.
Experience:
Highly skilled synthetic chemist in the area of methodology development and multistep synthesis.
Strong knowledge on techniques related to purification and characterization of organic compounds.
In addition to a strong chromatography background, the position will require the characterization of intermediates and target compounds by HPLC, MS, NMR and other analytical techniques.
Hands-on experience in using HPLC/UPLC, LC-MS, UV/VIS and other analytical instruments used in chemistry labs.
Proven track record of creative thinking and consistent delivery of excellent results as demonstrated by publication/presentation records.
Demonstrated independent thought and judgment in designing, developing and optimizing synthesis of organic compounds
